What We Do

Fabrication

Doe Run’s Fabricated Products Division

Fabricated Products' rolling mill creates sheet lead to exact specifications.

For more than 80 years, Fabricated Products Inc. (FPI) has delivered premium, technically advanced lead products for a variety of industries.

Now a wholly owned subsidiary of  The Doe Run Company, FPI blends a century of expertise in metallurgy and lead fabrication to meet the unique needs of each customer. FPI manufactures more than 30,000 tons of lead annually at its fabrication locations in Vancouver, Wash., and Casa Grande, Ariz.

FPI’s Vancouver plant mainly produces lead oxide used in lead-acid batteries and lead billets for ammunition. FPI operates three ball mills that tumble large chunks of lead, creating heat and friction that breaks it into smaller pieces. Consumer orders dictate the size and density of the resulting lead oxide.

FPI’s Casa Grande plant (dba Seafab Metals Company) uses three techniques — rolling, extruding and casting — to create fully-customized products.

  • Rolling mills create sheet lead for roofing products that protect residential and commercial buildings from the elements, as well as shielding to protect healthcare professionals, patients and air travelers from radiation.
  • Extrusion presses create lead wire, pipe and anodes for electrowinning.
  • Seafab also fabricates ultra-high integrity lead castings of up to 500,000 pounds for spent nuclear fuel shielding containers and related components. These casting capabilities help Doe Run and Seafab serve as trusted suppliers for the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and U.S. Navy. Specially casted and gamma scanned containers ensure the safe transport and storage of nuclear materials.
  • In addition to its own lead products, Seafab markets Herculaneum’s lead strip and Buick Resource Recycling Division’s lead billets.

Commitment to Excellence

In May 2015, FPI achieved 1.5 million hours without a lost time accident. This milestone represents more than 16 years of safe work at FPI’s Casa Grande, Arizona facility and 11 years of safe work at its Vancouver, Washington, facility. The Casa Grande facility has received a “Perfect Record Award” from the National Safety Council each year from 2000 through 2014.
