Doe Run participates in community events because we view them as excellent ways to interact with our neighbors, learn about the issues that matter most to them and serve as a fundamental source of support. Below is an overview of some of our larger initiatives.
- Employees at Doe Run’s Southeast Missouri Mining and Milling Division (SEMO) help organize Old Miners’ Day festivities each October in Viburnum, Mo. Doe Run opens up its mines for public tours to familiarize residents with a real-life mining environment while celebrating Missouri mining heritage.
- Doe Run’s Minerals Education Team arms dozens of Missouri teachers with earth science knowledge and educational resources each July at the Missouri Minerals Education Foundation’s annual workshop, which also helps teachers earn continuing education credit. Minerals Education Team members also share earth science expertise at the annual Fall Rocks family fun and educational event at the Missouri Mines State Historic Site.
- Doe Run also supports Herculaneum’s commitment to serving as a “Tree City USA.” Doe Run donated 100 trees that were planted throughout the city to help secure the designation in 2008. Doe Run continues to donate a tree each Arbor Day, in addition to annually staffing a community recycling and cleanup day.
