DOE RUN REPORTS ON UNDERGROUND EQUIPMENT FIRE
viburnum, Mo. (January 21, 2010) – Bob Roscoe, vice president of mining at The Doe Run Company’s Southeast Missouri Mining and Milling Division (SEMO), provided the following statement today regarding an underground equipment fire at the company’s No. 29 mine near Viburnum, Mo.:
“Just before 11 a.m. Thursday, a truck fire broke out in an underground haul road at our No. 29 mine. We immediately evacuated mine employees. After learning that the fire blocked the exit of three employees, we activated our mine rescue teams to safely reach them. They were treated and released Thursday evening. We appreciate the immediate action of our mine rescue teams, employees, and state and federal inspectors.”
“At Doe Run, the safety of our employees is paramount. While we hope we never have to use their skills, our mine rescue teams train on a monthly basis and rank as some of the best in the country. We’re thankful the training our employees receive helped to keep everyone safe in this instance.”
