FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DOE RUN EXECUTIVE NAMED A COMPUTERWORLD PREMIER 100 IT LEADER
Chief Information Officer Sharon Gietl to be Honored at Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference
ST. LOUIS (Dec. 7, 2009) — Sharon Gietl, chief information officer for The Doe Run Company, was honored by International Data Group’s (IDG) Computerworld as a 2010 Premier 100 IT Leaders honoree. This year’s Premier 100 spotlights 100 leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative ideas to business challenges and effectively managed information technology strategies.
“We’re pleased to see Sharon receive this honor in recognition of the outstanding leadership and guidance she has brought to The Doe Run Company,” said Bruce Neil, Doe Run president and chief executive officer. “In tight economies like today’s, it’s important to keep organizations aligned and to determine the most strategic and mission-critical projects. Sharon created a rigorous process that analyzes various scenarios to guide decision-making on the allocation of resources.”
Under Gietl’s direction, Doe Run introduced an enterprise-wide project management program that prioritizes and manages the entire company’s portfolio of projects. Successful project prioritization and management is critical during these tight economic times. Gietl helped improve overall end-user satisfaction more than 10 percent from 2008 to 2009, with much of the success stemming from the successful implementation of the new Information Technology Infrastructure Library’s (ITIL) framework for Incident, Problem and Change Management processes for end-user and systemic issues. Also in 2009, Gietl addressed unstructured documentation and data governance systems in an enterprise content management project.
“In times of recession, doing the right things and doing them well can make all the difference,” Gietl said.
The Premier 100 awards ceremony takes place during Computerworld’s annual Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference, to be held March 7-9 in Phoenix. The conference will showcase honorees and other IT innovators as they discuss how to create competitive IT organizations.
“The Premier 100 awards program shines a spotlight on the best of IT leadership and innovation,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “Despite a tough economy, these senior IT leaders are seizing this rare moment to steer measured growth, embark on innovative pilots and build loyalty in their most valued workers. We’re pleased to honor the achievements of these 100 men and women who epitomize calm and steady IT leadership.”

About the Premier 100
The Premier 100 was first created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had positive impacts on their organizations through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies. Each year, nominees are invited to complete a survey that addresses a number of topics, including their background and experience and their attitude toward risk and innovation. Using Computerworld’s IT Leader Index and using the data from the index, which is a measurement of how closely an individual matches our definition of the IT Leader, the data is analyzed. Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this lifetime recognition award.
