Backgrounder

Doe Run opened the Resource Recycling Division in 1991. Since then, the division and its employees have steadily increased the amount of lead-bearing material they recycle each year.

The state-of-the-art recycling facility is the most advanced, most environmentally sound and safest of its kind in North America. Each year, the facility recycles and recovers more than 100,000 tons of refined lead.

Community Involvement

Resource Recycling Division employees are proud to be part of their community. Each year the facility participates in the Minerals Education Workshop sponsored by the Missouri Minerals Education Foundation (MMEF). The workshop provides information and resources for primary and middle school teachers about the natural rock and ore found in Missouri, how and what minerals are mined, and the value and uses of Missouri’s minerals. This year the workshop instructors helped to educate more than 60 teachers from across the state. Resource Recycling Division also supports secondary education through scholarships to the Mineral Area College and the University of Missouri – Rolla.

Employees are pleased to donate their time, talents and support to local school programs, local athletics and other local agencies. The facility adopted and maintains a two-mile stretch of Highway KK near Bixby, Mo.

Safety Commitment

The Resource Recycling Division is the safest of its kind, thanks to state-of-the-art technology. Division employees pride themselves on their safety record and strive to maintain the safest working conditions possible. Most recently, for the fourth time in the division’s history, employees reached 750,000 hours without a lost-time incident. Resource Recycling Division’s safety record consistently ranks well ahead of industry standards. In addition, the current employees of Resource Recycling Division have the lowest blood-lead levels in the history of the facility.

ISO Certifications – Commitment to Quality

For its business-to-business operations and quality management systems such as internal office procedures, record-keeping and customer service, the Resource Recycling Division also achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification. ISO 9001:2000 is a nationally and internationally recognized symbol of a company’s dedication to superior quality, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

Resource Recycling has also received the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management procedures. The certification recognizes the environmental safeguards, procedures and management systems in place at the facility.
